What it measures.

12 results across the parts below, each in plain English. This describes what a lab measures; it cannot tell you what your own result means.

  • Creatinine

A waste product from muscles that the kidneys filter out. Labs use it to estimate how well the kidneys filter.

  • Estimated glomerular filtration rateeGFR

An estimate of how much blood the kidneys filter each minute, calculated from creatinine, age and sex.

  • Blood urea nitrogenBUN

A waste product from breaking down protein that the kidneys clear.

  • Sodium, potassium, chloride and CO2Electrolytes

Salts the body keeps in balance, measured together.

  • Calcium

A mineral for bones, muscles and nerves, measured in the blood.

  • Albumin

The main protein in the blood, made by the liver. It also carries hormones such as testosterone.

  • Glucose

The sugar in the blood at the moment of the draw. It is usually measured after fasting so a meal does not change it.
